Bristlecone Institute is a learning center dedicated to helping families and older adults understand senior living options through plain-language, factual, and neutral content. We are not a referral service or care provider, and we do not offer medical, legal, or financial advice.
What we publish
We publish two kinds of material. Articles explain a single subject — assisted living, memory care, independent living, skilled nursing, cost and payment, choosing a community, or caregiver resources — in a few hundred words, and are grouped by topic. The glossary defines terms families run into while comparing options, in one or two sentences each.
We do not name, rank, rate, or recommend specific communities, operators, or products. Content is written for readers in the United States; where something applies elsewhere, or varies by state, we say so.
How content is reviewed
Factual claims are drawn from public organizations such as the National Institute on Aging, Medicare, Medicaid, the Administration for Community Living, the Alzheimer’s Association, and AARP. Every article lists the sources it draws on and the date it was last reviewed, so readers can check the original material and see how current the page is. Rules and programs change, and details vary by state, so the sources are the authority rather than our summary of them.
Everything here is general education. It is not medical, legal, or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for talking with a doctor, elder law attorney, financial advisor, or benefits counselor about a specific situation.
